Two distinguished Chinese artists, D n Y, with their clear crucut hair which is so rare for Chinese dames, have landed at our Houten UFO station, a specially created art piece by Holland’s artist Martin Riebeet. There, in the middle of this unique traffic island, they enjoyed a "cup of tea" with their hearts, traditional as well as advent garde.
Passersby were so surprised and shocked for the first time in their life. But here is actually also the cross point of the world. a place where east meets west, old encounters the new, they bring the world together into a one. Just like our western history of creation recorded: two creatures quietly happily in the paradise.
All these appear not true. A few minutes later, they woke up out of their beautiful dream by the noisy tyres of the autos driving around the place, a modern world. What remains was only the moment in their soul when time and space, east and west met. Meanwhile the two artists completed their new works of action.
Dingzi lives in china, Yizi lives in Europe. Together they left their ateliers, their cities, their lands to persuit a road of encounter: Beijing, xian, chengdu, the silk road, DH, Amsterdam Rotterdam Barcelona, Brussels, London, Monaco......... Together they showed their works in different museums and galleries both east and west.
Angd though all the cities they visited are quiet, they created sounds and stir in their own way, paintings, photos, articles, performances.... not only as happy ufos, but also as critics against this increasing crazy world. They know their creations which is so closely related to this world, with their professional artist approach, they reflect and criticized this disorder world.
To us, a cup of zen is more an artwork than an art book. The mobilization of time and zones between pages, as well as the daily happenings, are also necessary parts of the whole piece. We live in such a complicated contemporary world that events occur by each practical minute, The quickening paces of war and terror and science are constantly changing our lives, Nowadays a war has surpassed the battle zones to locate its multi-fronts everywhere in the world. As an result, we experience daily terror at every corner of the earth. In order to express ourselves thoroughly, we come out of our tearoom, atelier and exhibition place to encounter this totally changed world. TV, Internet, east and west. Wherever we are, we feel the same, our works, too. We are in the center of the world, and straitened in this unavoidable center we are utterly pressed into a strange situation. A cup of zen is to gather ourselves down to a simple cup of tea, breathing and walking again as a real human being, or even a happy buddha.
